What's My Blood Type: About Us
What's My Blood Type.org: What's Your Type?

More About Us
What's your blood type? If you don't already know, we are here to help you find out.  I learned a few years ago that mine is O+. After enlisting in the military I received an identification card with 3 pivotal pieces of information: my birth date, which I've always known, my social security number, and my blood type.  I never knew what my blood type was growing up and I never really cared to find out.  More than 60% of Americans are unaware of their blood type. That's an alarming statistic and it comes as a surprise to me.

I conceived this website to try and build an awareness. Too many people are uninformed of what their blood type is and not concerned enough to go to the doctor to find out. It is vital to know in cases of medical emergency when a blood transfusion may be needed immediately, and the delay in finding out may cost a life.

This site is dedicated to the memory of one of my best friends, Big Walt.  I was fortunate enough to be a part of my high school basketball team. We were at practice one day and we just could not get it together, so we had to run wind sprints. while we were running, Walt suddenly stopped at half court, bent down, and just lay on the court. Someone called for an ambulance, but Walt died on the way to the hospital, due to a blood clot caused by an undiagnosed blood disorder. I never forgot that day and vowed to somehow find a way to help others. I think the more people who are aware of their blood type the better off the world will be.

It seems as though we tend to focus on the major blood diseases and not spend too much time on the ones who also kill a substantial number of people in our community. Thousands of people die from lesser-known blood disorders and diseases like thrombophilia, thalassemia, and hemophilia each year. What about them? What about Walt? A portion of the proceeds from our online store and donated funds go towards researching blood disease, and to help the less fortunate. Charitable organizations we contribute to include the Blood Diamond Charity Fund, March of Dimes, Thalassemia Support Foundation, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

In our online store you will find a home blood type test kit; and t-shirts and red wristbands that show both your blood type and your support for What's My Blood Type.org. Monetary donations are also appreciated. Our wish is that everyone learns their blood type with the help of our site. Please make a contribution today! You could be saving a life.
